Rea Vaya adds only 50 cents to fares

With the end of the financial year and announcements made by President Cyril Ramaphosa at the State of the Nation Address. It is only imperative that we bring to your attention the slight increase of fares.

As from the 1st of July 2019, Rea Vaya fares will be increasing by 50 cents (7%) on all trips. This percentage remains in line with the City’s vision to keep public transport affordable to all citizens.

Nothing will change much for commuters because they will continue to receive bonus points for free trips that they earn.

 The City of Johannesburg has a point-based system for Rea Vaya services that allow commuters to obtain bonus points up to 12.5%, and they receive free trips to travel.  Bonus points are earned when a commuter loads R51.00 or more into their smartcard. In addition to Rea Vaya rewards commuters get 10% off peak Monday – Friday between 08:31am and 14:59pm. Then all-day during weekends and public holidays.

Smartcards are only sold at selected Rea Vaya stations specifically at: Thokoza Park, INdingilizi, Orlando Stadium, Diepkloof, UJ Kingsway, Park Station, Johannesburg Art Gallery and Carlton Eastbound.

Rea Vaya continues to annually introduce fare increment that enables bus services to continue so that the City can offer Johannesburg citizens with an affordable public transport which is one of the City’s main objectives. It has been almost 10 years of serving Johannesburg residents, and the Bus Rapid Transport continues to keep its promise of being Safe Fast, and Affordable mode of transportation.
